This document is in the Jeopardy™ television game show format. The instructional content adheres to the State of Virginia’s Standards of Learning for first grade science, and examines the life science topic about animals. These area of discussions include: what is an animal, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds and fish, tame or wild animals, appendages and movement, basic needs and habitats, and seasonal changes in animals. There are five categories with points ranging from 100 to 500…100 = easiest, 500 = most challenging. When an answer is already questioned the points change color to signal not to try that answer again. Although there are no “Daily Doubles,” this game is still fun, challenging, and exciting. It may be used as an anticipatory to your Animals thematic unit, as well as for review before the unit’s post assessment. It is completely applicable in second and third grades as an anticipatory exercise to access students’ prior knowledge. Enjoy!
