Classifying Animals – A Third Grade SmartBoard Introduction is a SmartBoard instructional presentation in line with the 3rd Grade SOL’s for the state of Virginia (Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Changes)
Earth Patterns, Cycles, and Change
This lesson focuses on the breakdown of the classification of animals. It includes: a Smartboard presentation of the text emphasizing 5 basic classifications (mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and fish), understanding the classification differences, and vertebrates/invertebrates. Terminology is included, as well as a SmartBoard activity (moving animals into their correct classification) and a “Go Fish!” card game activity where students will ask for classification types and have to give an animal from that classification. The SmartBoard activity is also included in a PDF file so it can be printed and issued as desk or homework assignments.
