Animal Defenses: Chickens Gone Wild!
Students bypass thousands of years to give chickens some instantaneous adaptations to help them have some defenses against predators!
In this lesson, students will use colored pencils, crayons or markers on a chicken template to design their own adaptations to help a chicken survive in the wild.
Students learn how animals that have been domesticated for food use have had their natural defenses bred out of them so they are easier for people to handle. Using an accompanying chart detailing types of adaptations (e.g. to help avoid danger, escape, block/armor, block/chemical defenses, fight back), students design and sketch adaptations that will help their newly escaped chickens survive in the wild.
4 pages including 1 page student introduction, 1 page template chicken, 1 page teacher preparation, and 1 page student sample.
