The little artists are busy painting pictures. They want to surprise you. They will describe what they will be painting and want to see if your students can guess the animal. They will also make something funny about the picture for your students to describe.
Comprehension and expression of animal descriptions. Naming animals, the pronouns he/she, the verbs (past and future tense), as well as telling “what’s funny” about a picture in sentences.
Twenty animals are included in this activity. They are cat, dog, turtle, turkey, frog, duck, dolphin, kangaroo, alligator, zebra, spider, snake, leopard, lion, penguin, tiger, giraffe, elephant, polar bear and monkey.

Read the question (i.e., What will he paint?) Read or have students read the description (i.e., It’s an insect. It builds a web. It has 8 legs.) Try to guess the animal that the artist will paint. Scroll to the next page which shows the animal the artist has painted. Describe more characteristics about animal. Ask, “What’s funny about the painting?” (i.e., The spider is carrying an umbrella.)
Page 45 - Print a page for each student.
Have student artists write a description for an animal on the first easel on the page, then paint or draw the animal on the second easel. Have students share their description with the class/group and see if classmates are able to guess the animal. Students could paint or draw something funny about their animal as well. Have fun!
