As the first half of the year winds down, each of my students is ready to construct, and present, his/her own product to the class. This power point presentation (adaptable for Prezi) is one of my favorites, because it showcases student individuality. Computers are made available to each student during class time, and within a week, each person is prepared to present his/her work. On rare occasions, or for lack of time, students have worked in pairs, with one student responsible for slides 2,4,6,8,10, and the second responsible for slides 1,3,5,7,9. For shy students, I help by asking them questions throughout the presentation.
Using a flash drive, I collect all of the PPT's prior to presentation, and new presenters transition quickly to their report. The movie clips should be embedded in the PPT. If they are not embedded, the URL is easy to access if the internet is running in the background.
I correct each PPT as it is presented, (if I need additional time then I have the PPT on the flash drive). Use the rubric I've included for your work. Principals who enter your class see each student synthesizing information, creating a new product, and working at higher order levels.
Information required by PPT includes: niche, food webs, habitat, distribution map, endangered species information. A bibliography is necessary for full credit.
Internet information can be found on all animals in the list.
