Science and engineering don't always occur in a lab or a classroom. Sometimes they happen in our own backyards!
This resource explores the incredible engineering of the beaver. Using the simplest of materials, students will design a dam that blocks the flow of water. ***ATTENTION: While the supporting activities and printables are different, this is the same challenge that is featured in "The STEM Adventures of Backpack Jack: Build Like a Beaver." If you have already purchased the Backpack Jack adventure, this will be repetitive.***
Each lesson in the "STEM in Nature" series explores a different animal engineer. Though the different components of this resource may be used separately, together they cover all six elements of a STREAM activity. Students will:
* Explore real world examples of engineering in nature (Science)
* Use the internet to research information about the featured animal (Technology)
*Use reading comprehension to answer questions about the featured animal (Reading)
*Design a prototype to solve a problem or meet a challenge (Engineering and Art)
*Use measurement, operations, understanding of geometric shapes, etc. (Mathematics)
