Science and engineering don't always occur in a lab or a classroom. Sometimes they happen in our own backyards!
This resource explores the amazing mathematical mind of the honey bee. Using the simplest of materials, students will discover that creating a perfect geometric shape (like the hexagons of a honeycomb) is not an easy task!
Each lesson in the "STEM in Nature" series explores a different animal engineer. Though the different components of this resource may be used separately, together they cover all six elements of a STREAM activity. Students will:
* Explore real world examples of engineering in nature (Science)
* Use the internet to research information about the featured animal (Technology)
*Use reading comprehension to answer questions about the featured animal (Reading)
*Design a prototype to solve a problem or meet a challenge (Engineering and Art)
*Use measurement, operations, understanding of geometric shapes, etc. (Mathematics)
