- Zip
Description
Animal Farm teaches many lessons that are relevant to students of today; show them with an inquiry approach. This package can be used instead of, or as a supplement to, a more traditional approach to Animal Farm.
(NOTE: looking for resources for distance learning for the novel? Check out my graphic organizers and one-sliders)
Students will learn about the power of language as they come to understand how words can be used to both inspire and control. They will look at several inspirational speeches, including Old Major's, and then write and deliver their own. They will also investigate how, like the pigs, advertisers and politicians attempt to manipulate them every day. Their final project will ask them to use what they have learned to create a real-life project that enacts change in their world.
Students will need to collaborate while they practice their critical thinking and communication skills. There are opportunities to use problem solving and decision making, and the final project will be a culmination of all of these. Thus, by critically analyzing the text in a traditional sense, the students will also have the opportunity to build skills that they can and will need for many situations. Most importantly, the unit strives to make the text relevant to their lives, so they are much more likely to buy in and enjoy!
NEW November 2016: Updates to design and assignments, including learning stations to help introduce the background information for the novella. These stations are available for purchase on their own as well.
