Annotating is a key part in comprehension and analysis and yet it's a skill that SO many students struggle with. For this reason, I've created a custom audio for Animal Farm. Ch. 1 is not included, because I highly recommend reading the first chapter with your students, pointing out key parts, specifically reviewing Old Major's speech, identifying the the thesis statements, topic sentences, and supporting details.. Furthermore, Ch. 6 is not included because this is another good time to check in with students to ensure they have picked up on key aspects of the novel (ie. relating specific events that occur in Ch. 5 that relate back to Old Major's speech in Ch. 1.) My students are currently reading this novel and I am incrementally uploading videos. Full disclosure, the videos themselves get less fancy as we progress.
These videos however are ideal because it's perfect for differentiation. Students can pause whenever they see fit and continue whenever they are ready. It is on their own terms, rather than doing the general pace of the entire class.
