This is an Open Mind (in the shape of a pig) that students work on after reading chapter one of Animal Farm. It includes a basic rubric at the bottom asking for a combination of summary, quotations, images, and commentary. I use this exercise to help the students make sense of Old Major's speech, and what exactly the animals' grievances are. I solid understanding of the way of life the animals are coming from is crucial for students to understand the importance of the revolution, and all that can by gained or lost from it - it sets the stakes.
