This interactive simulation will place your students into the world of Animal Farm so they can begin to think about government and those who have power over them. This activity splits the students into groups by animal. The group that is designated the leaders will try their best to lead the class effectively. Each group has a role to play, and you will watch as they figure out the difficulties that come with power and control. It can be a challenge to find interactive, cooperative activities for English that get students to experience what they are learning about. This is perfect if you are looking to liven up your teaching of the novel!
*This activity does not require the students to teach actual content, and this simulation only takes a small portion of each class period, leaving plenty of time for delving into the book itself!
This simulation is designed to take place during your reading of the book. There are journal prompts to get students thinking about what they want in a leader and an essay prompt that asks students to consider the themes of the book and activity. There are also some discussion questions that you can incorporate in multiple ways.
