This resource helps student connect what each character symbolizes. Students, ideally after reading chapters 1-3 (though this could be used at any point), will brainstorm what traits each animal in Orwell's book usually has (e.g. smelly, dirty, fat, for a pig). Students will then brainstorm how these animal traits could be translated to a human, and what statement this makes about the historical figures each portrays. I used this resource with my special education 9th grade class and it was a success.
Please check out the other resources for Animal Farm that I have posted, all of which have been used successfully with special needs students!
