This is a power point which has a total of 61 slides. The first half is a history lesson of the Communist Revolution which highlights all of the major characters and events. The second half deals with the parallels and symbolism to the characters and events in the novel Animal Farm by George Orwell. It also comes with a challenging crossword puzzle.
The use of symbolism by the author is subtle, clever, and effective. If your class is like mine, many students hate to analyze a story. However when you inject symbolism into the equation, it becomes enjoyable and even fascinating to them. This power point uses clip art and graphics to enhance an already exciting idea.
I usually let students view the first half of the power point dealing with the actual history of the Communist Revolution. This is an active note taking activity while I present. Students then in pairs or groups attempt to fill in the other side with the symbolism of the events and characters in the novel. My kids love this.
