PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Your students will love debates over what they know about animals, their dietary preferences and habitat. Lively disagreements are fun and will be a big hit with your classes.

These materials are designed to coordinate and be a follow up to any of your Spanish 1 animal lessons. With this product you will receive two interactive worksheet activities plus one page of bilingual conversation questions and samples of open ended responses. You are also receiving two pages of daily lesson suggestions and activity ideas. These activities function well as a stand alone activity or in coordination with a broader unit and will be an essential tool for any of their conversations about pets, favorite animals, regional animals or environmental conservation.

Essential Background Knowledge
-Animal vocabulary

Minor background knowledge:
-Map topography / geography / continents
-Present tense verb conjugation
-Foods

As always, Maestra Mapache has first created these activities and used in her own classroom. Secondly these activities are designed to be adaptable to any of your lesson units. The thematic references are a flexible tool so you the teacher can designate the category or quantity of words that may be needed in your daily lessons. Students will be inspired to learn and internalize words and expressions that are important to them in their discussions.

Textbook vocabulary lists do not have a sufficient quantity or variety of terms that I or my students wanted in order to build and expand ideas. Too often, the activities were for rote memory exercises but, not sufficient for expanding into daily use. For this reason I developed my own glossaries and let the students choose the vocabulary that had meaning beyond the textbook exercise. "Scaffolding" is the current terminology, however I like to refer to this educational strategy as "spiraling". The teacher provides the framework and examples of the activity and grammar and the students then reuse and recycle their prior knowledge while continually expanding with more complex structures. Students learn to take a more active role in their own learning and can be successful regardless of their skill level.

Every effort has been made to ensure that all vocabulary is common usage however since language evolves rapidly, please share your feedback and suggestions for newer expressions.

This vocabulary sheet may be purchased individually and in the future will be available as a bundle with dialogue activities.
