Five graphic organizers for reading and writing informational text: Arctic, Pond, Ocean, Desert and Forest. Students in K-5 can use these graphic organizers to guide their research about animals living in a given environment. Completed organizers are great for planning and organizing student writing about habitats.
For whole group instruction in the early grades, a blank organizer can be projected on your smart board while you introduce the topic and set the purpose for reading. As you read informational text together, write/draw the appropriate information in the web strands. Students first practice telling about the topic using the organizer to guide them. Then, they write about the topic, also using theorganizer to guide them.
Printed blank organizers and information books make great literacy centers for students who are just learning to answer text-based questions!
