This minilesson called "The Kangaroo Zone" starts with a little over a full page of decriptive text about the animal. The next couple of pages have students using a word bank (box) to slot choices into 12 fill-in-the-blank questions. A kangaroo drawing states directions inside a talk bubble. Finally there are 6 True and False questions. Two of them are figurative language ones with students identifying metaphors and similes. Altogether there are 18 questions, which are analytical requiring students to make inferences, drawing conclusions about the main ideas and details of kangaroos. Science vocabulary includes mammals, marsupials, joeys and more. The minilesson definitely provides substantial practice for many of the ELA Common Core Standards. The 4th page is the answer key. The product is a word document, which makes it easy for you to edit or adjust in anyway you deem necessary.
