Product Description
Summary: This activity is designed help students understand how different organisms use their external body parts in different ways to see, hear, grasp, protect themselves, move, and obtain food. According to the National Academy of Sciences’ Next Generation Science Standards, by the end of 2nd grade student should know and understand how animals use their body parts in various ways to help them live and function in their environment. (LS1: From Molecules to Organisms: Structure and Processes; LS1.A: Structure and Function)
This activity can be played as a match type game or a rummy type game. I have provided instructions for how to play both in the procedure section of this handout. I have also included assessment tickets (or exit ticket) to accompany the game. These require students write a brief explanation of how an animal uses its external parts to help it live and survive. The tickets have sentence starters, which are especially good for your ELL students. More that one ticket can be given depending on how much time you want to allow.
