Students will create a Foldable Report on an animal of their choosing. This unit is aligned to Common Core Writing Standards ~ W.2, W.4-6, W.7 (Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.), W.8 (Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.) and W.10.

1) 5 Paragraph Essay
Write a separate paragraph about all of the items, 1-5, in your animal report. Use the checklist to proofread your report. Your animal report should be at least one page. Make sure to include the following in your essay:
1. Choose an animal.
___- Your opening paragraph should introduce your animal and get your reader excited about the animal you chose. Tell what group your animal belongs to (mammal, reptile,…). Share an interesting fact or write a riddle.
2. Write about the animal’s body.
-Color and type of covering (fur, feathers,…)
-Special or interesting body parts (teeth, legs, beak)
3. Write about the animal’s habitat.
___ - Location (state, countries, continents)
___ - Type of habitat (forest, ocean, desert,…)
___ - Type of home (nest, cave,…)
4. Write about the animal’s living habits.
- Other facts
5. Write a closing paragraph.
___-Tell why you picked your animal and what you liked most about it.
2) Animal Foldable:
You will create a foldable lapbook to further demonstrate what you’ve learned about your animal. Your foldable must include the following:
-A cover page that accurately depicts your animal, the name of your animal and your name.
-Your 5 Paragraph Essay
-Top 5 interesting facts that you learned about your animal
-My Animal’s Cool Adaptation: Write about an adaptation your animal has. Explain how this adaptation helps it survive in its habitat.
-At least 2 illustrations/pictures and captions of your animal
-About the Author/Illustrator
