In my classroom, I choose a type of animals like farm animals, zoo animals, safari animals, artic animals, ect and gather books on this topic. I narrow it down to five animals we want to research. Each day as a class we research the animal. Students will use the notebook to record their whole class research. Depending on the grade, students can also read passages about the animal or watch videos about the animal. We write the animal on the top then write questions we want to answer about the animals.
Questions I like to use are:
What does the animal eat?
What does the animal look like?
Where does the animal live?
How does the animal move?
Students then answer the questions and illustrate in the circle.
Students then write a paragraph on the animal using what they learned.
