Kids always inquire about animals. Let them pick their own animal, research it, and write a report using this document. This report is in the form of a magazine. The file includes a rough draft packet where students can take notes while researching, a final copy magazine, and a rubric.
Students will research and write about the following topics: the animal’s habitat, the animal's adaptations, how humans impact the animal’s environment, fun facts about your animal, a food chain, a letter pretending they are the animal, and how humans can take action.
I used this report as a summative assessment for the Unit of Inquiry Sharing the Planet, but it can be adapted to any science unit about animals or nonfiction writing.
