Students can become “experts” about animals in our world. During this animal study, students will learn about the non-fiction text features of a magazine/and/or text. They will use the non-fiction features to write research reports about any animals they choose, or you assign. If you are studying about a specific habitat, you want your choices to be animals from that habitat. If you are studying continents, you may want your choice of animals from the seven continents.
First students will ask questions about their animals. Students will describe their animals and draw “diagrams” of their animals. As they research the internet and use informative texts, they will write the “learning facts,” then the “fun facts” about their animals. They will write about their animals’“predators and prey.” Near the end of their research, students will make “Indexes” and “Tables of Contents” as well as “Glossaries.” Last, but not least, students will write about themselves, the “Authors.” Students can then design the border frames, different on each page.
