This unit is designed to teach students expository writing skills through science curriculum. It is Common Core aligned and works well with 2nd and 3rd grade curriculum. The standards addressed are included in the unit. Students will be involved in a group research report in which they will write about the traits and the life cycle of different insects, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish.
This unit includes:
*31 fact sheets- These fact sheets are written to include the traits and the life cycle of 31 different animals. You can divide your class into 5 different groups and let them research 1 of each type of animal (insect, mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian, and fish), or assign one animal to each of your students. There are 6 fish, 5 insects, 5 mammals, 5 reptiles, 5 amphibians, and 5 birds to choose from.
*Foldable Vocabulary activity to address key words in the unit.
*Graphic Organizer idea to organize the major characteristics of the 6 types of animals.
