Product Description

This Next Generation Science (NGSS) inspired activity collection introduces first grade students to traits and adaptations inherited by pets. Students will be exposed to new vocabulary as they learn how animal external parts and traits help them survive. Students will use their knowledge of pets as they sort, put words into sentence order, match sentence parts together, graph, write, cut, and draw. There are 3 levels of sentence cards to put in order so you can differentiate for your students' levels or use it in the fall and again in the spring at the next level. The challenge set gives students the opportunity to use adjectives that describe the pets and their features as well.

First grade students are to learn about inheritance of traits along with structure and function of external body parts for Next Generation Science Standards. This resource will help introduce your students to traits that many animals have. They can also compare how different animals possess these traits yet they might vary by size or shape. Animals may also use the body parts for different purposes. These activities will help your students build a vocabulary and background knowledge to build upon to meet the standards.
