In this unit students will gain a deeper understanding of the needs of animals. All animals need food, water, air, shelter and space. Animals take in food, air, and water to grow and develop. Through growth and development animals form what is called a life cycle. Depending on what type of animal it is it may have a different habitat, food source, and life cycle. By categorizing the animals into the five groups (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects) we are able to discuss their way of life. Often animals’ habitats contain animals from their family but, they can also have different animals that are in the five animal categories. Humans are mammals (a type of animal) that have the same needs as other animals.
