This document is an animal unit created for use in second grade, written in the "unit by design" style. The subjects covered in the unit are the basic types of animals (mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, and insects), habitats, animal needs, heredity, and the food chain. The lesson plans include the Common Core and Ohio state standards, and the basic understandings students should walk away with after the unit is finished. It also lists the essential questions students will answer during the unit. Perhaps most importantly, it lists over 40 different student activities to do while studying animals. I have posted the printables and SmartBoard slides I use during the unit separately.
