Get ready to help students build animal vocabulary within a variety of subcategories (i.e. farm, forest, zoo, etc.)! Target animals in an organized manner (by subcategory) to establish semantic mapping, strengthen skills by identifying “which doesn’t belong?” (field of 4), and complete confrontation naming of animals presented in random order.
BONUS ACTIVITY: Animal Tic-Tac-Toe Collection!
Who said tic-tac-toe was meant for paper? Transform this tried-and-true classic from Tabletop to Teletherapy by pairing these slides with digital annotation tools as you work to build animal vocabulary. Animals are grouped by type (farm, pond, forest, and zoo) to encourage associations and semantic mapping.
CLINICAL TARGET MASH-UP: Consider using tic-tac-toe boards as a field of 9 from which to engage in a back and forth “guessing” game designed to strengthen vocabulary by providing practice with receptive and expressive identification of key attributes for targeted animals. Use this collection as a catalyst for a variety of other vocabulary building activities such a convergent and divergent naming.
Tip: Activities are not intended to be completed in a set order. Changes in background color signify changes in activity and make it easy to skip to the section you want to use!
