This activity connects to 1-LS-2 of the Next Generation Science Standards. Use the smartboard activity as a springboard for class discussion by having students identify how the adult and offspring are similar and different by completing a box and t chart. After modeling and completing a box and t together, students worked in partners to identify similarities and differences using the worksheet provided. The next day we focused on plants. At the beginning of the lesson, I used a slide of my son to start the conversation of how we were alike and different, so this might be something you would add. I had also considered having students bring in pictures of their parents and themselves, but you would have to be careful of sensitivities depending on the family situation.
