Animals: Animal Research Reports help young students understand what research is and the process of researching for the purpose of writing a report. Students follow the steps of choosing a topic, note-taking, writing a rough copy, editing/revising, writing a final copy, and presenting. Included in this project: Steps for how I took my students through this process, Graphic organizers for note-taking and writing a rough draft, two different page set-ups for writing an illustrated final copy, editing checklists, and a rubric for grading.
This lesson meets the following standards:
W2 - write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about a topic, and provide some sense of closure;
L1 - demonstrate command of conventions of standard english grammar and usage when writing or speaking;
