Animals Are Everywhere is a comprehensive SmartBoard Notebook presentation of the second grade science text covering animals. The presentation includes animal vocabulary, descriptions of animals and their young, an explanation of how classifying is done, an explanation of 6 types of animal groups, animal needs are explained, how animals get food, animal protection, the food chain, and the life cycle of the black bear. It also includes an animal group activity, an animal classification activity, a food chain activity, and a 16 slide “slideshow” of animal camouflage which can be used with the SmartBoard pen as a “How quickly can you find the hiding animals” activity. The previous 3 activities are also converted to a white background with alternative directions so they may be printed and completed as classwork or homework. The presentation correlates with the second grade Virginia Science Standards of Learning.
2.4 The student will investigate and understand that plants and animals undergo a series of orderly changes in their life cycles. Key concepts include
a) some animals (frogs and butterflies) undergo distinct stages during their lives, while others
generally resemble their parents; and
b) flowering plants undergo many changes, from the formation of the flower to the development
of the fruit.
