This is a paper version of Connect Four. Students play in pairs. Only one game board is needed for 2 players. I have 2 boards on 1 sheet; first game has pets and farm animals, second has zoo and miscellaneous animals. Have students use X & O to mark squares or their initials. Students must correctly identify the coordinates of the square (goat and dog). If wrong, the partner gets the square. Partners alternate turns. The goal is to get 4 squares in a row (vertical, horizontal, diagonal). The winner is the first one to Connect Four two times on the same board (3 to make it more challenging). You may make the game more challenging by making students use a particular verb (have, like, want), tense, adjectives or construction (comparison). There are pictures only, so it may be used for any language.
