These informational reading selections about animals include little-known facts. I created each of these original themed selections (6 in all) based on the specific Common Core needs of 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Each selection is two pages long and includes a two-page worksheet with complete answer key.

Sample: All About Dogs

The dog is one of the most popular pets in the world and they have a long history with humans. It is believed that dogs have been pets for thousands of years. Dogs are often called “Man’s Best Friend” because dogs help man in so many ways.

There are lots of different kinds of dogs out there, but each dog is as different as humans are. If you decide to have a dog for a pet, you need to choose a dog that fits your lifestyle. Some things to consider:

How active are you? Some dogs like to just hang out, but others need a great deal of exercise. Pick a dog that fits your family’s normal level of activity.

Fun Facts about Dogs

- A dog can smell about 100,000 times better than a human.
- A dog’s sweat glands are between the pads on its paws.
