This is a great activity for having students demonstrate their understanding of the classification of vertebrates.
I like to do this activity in groups, and it makes for a great discussion between groups and the entire class. Students first lay out the five vertebrate groups, then use the light blue characteristic cards to describe each group. After we check and discuss this part, the kids take the 30 red animal cards and sort them according to which group they believe they belong in. The names of each animal are included in case they need to look them up for further research.
It could also be a great science center or individual performance assessment.
