"Wire Cutters" is an award-winning film about two robots who meet while mining on a desolate planet. They decide to work together and their combined talents pay off until they begin fighting over the resources that they are collecting.
My goal for teaching with films is to give students an understanding of literary devices and themes through a very short and engaging shared text; an understanding that they can then apply to more complex written texts. This set of standards-based lessons includes an examination of round vs. flat characters, conflict, suspense, cliffhanger, theme, and the identification of the Notice and Note signpost AHA Moment.
The short film is 9 minutes long and is NOT included in the lesson. You can find the film for free on multiple sites, including Vimeo and YouTube-eliminating the need for purchasing a class set of books.
