Students are asked to choose a position on Anne Frank's famous quote "In spite of everything, I still believe people are good at heart". Students debate this quote based on their World War II knowledge and knowledge of the Anne Frank play (which we read in class). Then they research both digital and printed sources from/about World War II and use evidence from those sources to prove their case. Next they turn their research into a 5 paragraph essay.
The essay portion of the lesson comes with 5 materials (all of which are provided): research graphic organizer, source evaluation, essay outline, checklist, peer editing sheet, and rubric.
