Students complete the organizer as they read the play "The Diary of Anne Frank". Students will first choose a topic: Survival, hope, or family dynamics (or any topics you wish) and write it on the topic line. Then, as they read they find exact words, phrases, and lines in each scene that fit that topic. When they finish, they examine their organizer and determine what life lesson they learn about that topic (the theme). Works great for analyzing a theme throughout a long piece of work, a CCSS standard.
