Practice annotating texts with Greek Mythology!
This is a very structured activity designed to introduce students to annotating texts. The lesson begins with the why and when of annotating. Types of annotations are discussed with examples including literal, inferential and critical. Students are led through the principles of annotation before they are given the opportunity to practice. I use this lesson over the course of two days; the first day presenting the direct instruction and allowing for student practice of one myth in groups. I revisit the lesson the next day with students annotating their myth individually.
Both the Google Drive version, and PDFs are available for this product. I am including both so that you can edit your copy to fit the needs of your students, as well as share the graphic organizers to be compliant in a paperless classroom.
This lesson includes:
☞ Direct instruction presentation in Google Drive and PDF format
☞ Student Handouts of Demeter and Persephone & Pandora’s Box
☞ Fully annotated example of each myth
