The implementation of Common Core asks students to delve into deeper texts. One of the recommended ways in which to do this is through close reading. When beginning close reading within my 4th grade classroom, I drove myself crazy. I was often re-typing section of texts, running out of sticky notes, or finding sticky notes all over the place. I wanted my students to be able to delve into the text, annotate them, and write about their thinking while reading. This is how my product was born. A teammate and I developed the original “Annotating The Text” sheet after discussing our frustrations. This pack is what snowballed from there.
My Annotating the Text products can be used in many different ways! I often collect their Annotating the Text sheet to see what it is they are thinking while reading. Sometimes I will assign pairs during reading, this product allows me to keep track of what they discussed and what they were thinking during reading. If students are having any misconceptions or difficulties with their text, this allows me to see what is going on! It is my hope you enjoy this product as much as I (as well as my students!) do!
Please check out my freebie as well! That pack focuses on genres instead of just standards.
