Answering questions has never been easier! In this video, third grade students learn to find evidence in text, write a topic sentence, refer to the text, support with detail sentences, and conclude. In other words, they learn to construct a response to an open-ended question.
Students first read a one-page adaptation from The Velveteen Rabbit*
, which is included. The video then models constructing a thorough response.
The complete story (six one-page texts differentiated at three reading levels), lesson plans, and supporting resources are available in RL.3.1 Answering Questions Unit
in my Teachers Pay Teachers store.
*The Velveteen Rabbit
, written by Margery Williams and illustrated by William Nicholson, was published by Doubleday & Company, Inc., in 1922 and is now in the public domain.
