The following packet contains seven engaging activities (and answer keys) for Ayn Rand's novel, Anthem.
-Two pre-reading activities engage students with questions to respond to.
-Another activity introduces vocabulary and challenges students to identify the definition, use the terms in context, and craft their own sentences.
-A fourth activity provides students with characteristics of dystopian novels and quotes from the story that exemplify them. After matching the pre-selected quotes, students can find more examples of these traits by searching.
-The fifth activity is a set of ten comprehension questions that help students understand the setting and the society where the book takes place.
-The sixth activity reviews figurative language examples (Juxtaposition, Simile, Personification, Imagery, Synecdoche, and more)
-The final activity reviews Rand's unique descriptions for everyday objects.
This packet is a great supplement to any lesson. It can be used in its entirety for sub plans or given out as piecemeal to individuals. Groups can be tasked with completing it together, or a single student can complete it all on their own. There is not one perfect method!
