Fitted to 4th

With overt and subtle bullying, many students find their friendships (or lack of) wrought with anxiety. As busy teachers, we can miss the quieter students who feel alone and alienated.

This is an easy printable friendship survey you can use in your classroom today in about ten minutes. After you input the data into the included spreadsheet, you will get a lot of information on your class, including:

Who has many people who identify her as a friend
Who has few or no people who identify her as a friend
Who is someone people identify as not getting along with
Where kids get their best work done

Both the survey and spreadsheets are in 2 versions: PDF and editable powerpoint.

The data illustrate who may feel alone and/or bullied. Once you have this information, you can share the findings with fellow teachers and administration. Together you can plan ways to create meaningful connections for that student. Even better, this could be a fast, school-wide initiative to quickly assess who may be targets of bullying and/or isolation.

Bullying runs rampant. This is an easy and fast way to find out who you may be overlooking. You could make an enormous difference in a lonely child's life.
