This is an anticipation guide activity created for use with the book Mammals by Melissa Stewart. In an anticipation guide, the students read the statements on the handout and decide if they think they are true or false, based solely on their background knowledge on the topic. Then, as you read the book aloud, they fill in a second true or false column for each sentence. Afterwards, you can discuss as a class what made the false facts wrong, and what the truth is about them. This is a great way to access students' previous knowledge about a subject before diving into a unit. I love to use it on the first day we study mammals.
