Students are given 20 statements to read. Then, they determine whether or not they agree with each statement.
At the end of the survey/quiz, with a little basic math, students can determine the degree to which they agree with Puritan beliefs.
This isn't a scientific survey/quiz by any means, but it does engage students and acquaint students with some basic Puritan ideals.
Questions center on common Puritan beliefs. For example: Do you believe strongly in the existence of God? Do you believe that people are born sinful?
I use this activity prior to teaching The Crucible and/or Puritan poetry.
