After reading the play, I use this activity to discuss characterization. I typically give the students one 50 minute class period to complete the assignment. Prior to the next class period, I post the poems around the room grouping them by character. Then, the next day, I have students read the other poems and take notes on what they see that they would change, add to their poem, and why they would make these changes. (I have them use sticky notes). We then discuss the characters by going back to the play to support the students' opinions and work. This generates excellent class discussion and occasionally it will carry over to the next day.
