These set of activities are designed to give students multiple, fun, hands-on opportunities to learn and practice this skill in the Spanish Language.
Activities included are:
: This activity can be used both as an independent and/or Center Activity. Students need to order the puzzle pieces to find the hidden picture.
Find the Match
: Students color each set of two words that are antonyms. There are 15 pairs. Use a different color for each set.
Roll and Write
: In this Independent and/or small group activity, students use the dices to find words that are antonyms. Take turns to throw both dices (1 by 1). Write the first word in the column on the left. Then, throw the second dice trying to get an antonym for the first word. If so, write it in the second column next to the first word. If not, you loose your turn and the next player continues. The first person to complete their worksheet, wins.
Cut and Paste
: Students will cut and glue the two words that are antonyms.
: This game is designed to be played in Centers or Small Groups. Students take turns to flip one of their 5 markers. Then, they have to find the matching antonym on the board and cover it. If they are unable to find it, they loose their turn and the next player continues. The first player to get rid of the 5 markers, wins.
Rewrite the sentences
: In this Independent activity, students have to find an antonym for the underlined word in each sentence and substitute it. Then, rewrite the sentence using the new word.
: This game is designed to be played in groups of 4 preferably. Each player takes turns passing one card that they do not want to the player to their left, usually at one player’s signal to “Switch”.
When a player has 2 cards that are a match, he/she, drops the two cards to the middle of the table. The player without any cards, wins the game.
It could also be played by having students go around the classroom to find the person with the matching card.
: This is a Centers/Small group activity. Each player gets 5 domino cards. The rest of the cards are place face down in the table. The first player place any domino card face up in the center of the table. The next player, have to find a card that has a coordinating antonym to add. If so, he/she places it on the table next to the other card. If not, they take a new card for the center pile. If a match is made, it can be played. If not, the turn is over and it’s the next player’s turn. The player without any domino cards, wins he game!
All activities are great for visual, tactile and kinesthetic learners.
