This is a great activity for centers, partner or small group work, or even independent practice. Students will cut out and sort words in a gradual scale. They then glue their words in the correct order on a piece of paper. Provide bright, colorful paper so that you can display the scales in your classroom. These scales will encourage powerful vocabulary use when speaking and writing.
Some words are challenging, but students can use dictionaries or thesauruses for additional practice with using these resources.
I have included directions, 12 scales (ready to be sorted), and an answer key. Some antonyms include; light/dark, big/small, fast/slow, whisper/yell, and old/young.
Please leave me feedback or suggestions for other antonyms to include.
