Anxiety is an issue School Counselors deal with on a regular basis. This activity uses a Lift-The-Flap Whole Body Approach
to helping students reduce their worries.
Each flap represents how anxiety affects that particular part of the body. Open the flap and a worry busting strategy is listed for the student to complete. Blank templates are included for students to make it personal to them. They can color and write their own ideas for coping strategies to reduce worries. You can mix and match several different options with this activity. Both color and black & white versions are included.
The color version copy can be used as an example for students to see how the activity works. The examples that are included on the color printed version are:
Brain: Scary thoughts Strategy: Write in journal
Mouth: Shortness of Breath Strategy: Deep breathing activity
Stomach: Butterflies in stomach Strategy: Eat a healthy snack
Hands: Trembling hands Strategy: Trace Figure 8 on palm
Feet: Frozen in Spot Strategy: Do something 25 times
I keep Worry Busting Bags
in my office. These bags include inexpensive items to go along with the lift-the-flap activity. Some examples to consider...small water bottles, party blower for deep breathing, stress ball buddy, jump rope, mini notebooks for journals etc. In this download, I have included tags to make bags and put on mini notebooks for journals.
