This is perfect for teaching Native American history or for a writing exercise. The following is a primary source of an Apache Legend about the Child of Water, a god who created the world. Students compare how Apache Legends are similar to their own stories they grow up hearing, such as fairy tales. Students also decode why the figures in the story are important to the Apache Tribe.
This activity includes:
1. the primary source of the Apache Legend
2. reading questions
3. answer key.
The reading can be used for in-class lessons, sub-plans, or homework assignments. They're ideal for a World History, US History, Southwest History, Native American history, or a writing class. I created this for middle schoolers and high schoolers. More specifically, it is a good activity for 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade.
