Apostrophe Rules, Practice, and Test.
The apostrophe must be the most misused and misunderstood piece of punctuation. Students, as well as journalists and sign makers, seem to be totally mystified. This unit is devoted entirely to the proper use of the apostrophe (or as one of my students called it, the flying comma). Most of the focus is on using apostrophes with possessive nouns, but a few other apostrophe uses are also addressed, primarily contractions and abbreviations.
A handout detailing a step-by-step process for the use of the punctuation mark in possessive nouns, a practice sheet with answer sheet, teaching tips, and a comprehensive apostrophes test with answer sheet are included. This is an effort to impose the KISS (Keep It Super Simple) principle.
