App Authors Create an App Lesson Plan

This lesson plan developed by App Authors covers a full production topic in one hour and a half program; it is great for public libraries and after-school programs where participants may not return from week to week.

By the end of this lesson participants will have created a simple app that performs a task.

About This Resource

App Authors utilizes Code.org lessons and unplugged activities to walk participants through app building procedures. To get the most out of the App Authors program, you will want to make sure that students have access to computers with adequate internet and access to Code.org, and every week prepare your ice breakers and unplugged activities with all the physical materials needed.

Take a look at the lesson plans and activities for every week of App Authors. Choose which pieces you will use and which pieces you will adapt.

To utilize the following lessons you will need to familiarize yourself with the Code.org platform you and your participants will be using to learn to code and display your apps.

To do this, login at https://studio.code.org

Create a username and password and a section for your App Authors program. You can then add students to your section and print out access cards so that students will remember their passwords from week to week.
