This is a powerpoint on Appalachian Shape note singing including history, traditions, and excercises for current practice. A useful tool in teaching a shape note singing class. Shape Note singing is a tradition of notation in the Appalachian Mountains, assigning shapes to each note of the major scale, do re mi fa so la ti do. Hymns included are "I'll fly away,"Amazing Grace," "Holy Manna" and "Heaven's Really Gonna Shine." Also included are excercises for rhythmic reading and harmony singing.
